Comprised of 1,360 uniformed men and women, 362 operational volunteers, and 183 full-time civilians, FCFRD is the largest fire department in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department (FCFRD) is a combination career and volunteer all-hazards department providing a full complement of emergency medical services, fire suppression, technical rescue, swift water rescue, hazardous materials response, arson investigation, and fire and life safety education.
The department operates from 39 fire and rescue stations strategically positioned to meet the emergency service needs of the residents, businesses, and visitors in Fairfax County.
The FCFRD is an accredited agency with the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI). The department also holds a Class 1 rating from the Insurance Services Office (ISO).
Salary information

- Firefighter/EMT salary begins at $67,399.90
- Firefighter Paramedic salary begins at $74,309.04
- FF/Paramedics are eligible to receive a $10,000 signing bonus
- FF/Paramedics receive and additional stipend to maintain their Las certification, which is 10% of an 18-1’s salary
- ALS riding pay is $2/hour for an engine and $3/hour for a medic unit
- FF/Paramedics receive an additional annual ALS stipend of $6,740 (10% of the FF/EMT salary)
